PREFACE

We have literature on Yoga , and we have literature on Value Education , but we don’t have much or have very scanty literature . Whatever scanty writings we have in that Yoga and Value Education fall asunder wanting integration therein . The present work is humble attempt towards fulfilling this . Though the value educational objectives are realized through various curricula and methods , what we contend is that how Yoga itself can be employed as a method of value education , of course given the nature and scope of Yoga . The logic behind this is : Value education is not just a theoretical matter ; it has practical implications . Yoga , on the other hand , is through and through practical in nature.

In fact , Yoga is a theory – practice continuum

The question that naturally arises : Can Yoga serve as a practical method for carrying value educational programs in schools , colleges and educational institutions ? The answer is yes . And this theme has been attempted to be elaborated here . This is an exercise in widening the horizons of the applicability of yogic wisdom – precepts and practices . We have in Yoga number of instances of such applications such as – Yoga and Mental Health , Yoga and Physical Education , Yoga and Therapy , Yoga and physical culture , Sports and so on.

Here we will be concerned with Yoga and Value Education-

how Yoga & Value Education Kaivalyadhama objectives can be accomplished through Yoga . Further , more substantial feature with Yoga that vindicates the application of Yoga as a Method of Value Education is the very nature of Yoga that it has Values incorporated in its definitions , in its Forms and Kinds . Moreover , Yoga too like any other discipline deems it necessary to internalize certain Values concomitant with undertaking the way of yogic precepts and practises . Yoga in itself is through and through Value educational activity !
